Happy Mama’s Day

I hope your first response to the blog post title isn’t, “Oh crap!” Yup, Mother’s Day is this weekend so you better rush out to get a card, flowers or gift if you haven’t already. But maybe you can do it after reading this post?

My mom is the most difficult person to shop for. Seriously. It’s not that she has everything, but it’s that she wants nothing. For as long as I can remember, when it comes to her gifts, she’ll say, “You didn’t have to get me anything!” or “Don’t spend your money on me, get something nice for yourself. Better yet, save it!” That’s my mom. It can be super frustrating but I know she’s this way because she puts everyone else before her, especially her children. So I know I’m a pretty lucky kid.

Regardless, every year I make a valiant attempt at getting her something, whether it’s for Christmas, Mothers Day or her birthday. I’ve been doing pretty good with my selections but since I don’t live in the same city as her, I think the best gift of all is for me to come home and spend some time together.

And that’s what I’m doing this year. We’ll be doing a big dinner with the whole fam so we can celebrate moms and grandmoms! Since it’ll just be a quick stopover before I take off again for vacation, I won’t be there on Mothers Day. But I still got her a card so she’ll have something to open.

This is the card I got her, from Smock Paper. They do beautiful letterpress and are SO eco-friendly. 100% wind energy to do the printing, bamboo paper, tree-free and biodegradable packaging and a whole bunch of other great stuff, they really do put their money where their mouth is. It just goes to show you can love stationery and Mother Nature.
