Font Friday – April 9

Choosing a font can be like choosing ice cream when there are hundreds of flavours  on offer. You see your favourites, some you’d never try and others that can be tasty on the right day. In the end, you choose the flavour that will satisfy whatever craving you have at the moment. When I’m looking for a font, that’s exactly how I feel.

I love scanning tons of fonts hoping to see just what I’m looking for, even if I can’t describe it. Every font has a flavour all its own and more often than not, I wish for projects that would give me an excuse to use some of the really fun ones. But until then, I store them away in the back of my mind waiting for the right opportunity or share them here with you. Here are my picks for the week. Enjoy and have a great weekend!

Ahh, I love skinny san serifs. Found on FontShop from Scangraphic, Today Sans Serif SB is so elegantly simple and calming to look at. I love the ‘w’, the lower case ‘g’ and of course the ampersand!

Speaking of ampersands, how did I NOT know about this font?! IT’S ALL AMPERSANDS! Published by SOTA and found on FontShop, Coming Together is a delicious collection of ampersands in many different styles and categories. This is font heaven for me!

This font is similar in application to one I talked about back in December. Like the Aeronaut font, this one can be used in separate pieces and then put together for a multi-colour effect. This is much more efficient than fiddling with the font in Illustrator. Grandes Vacances OT designed by Ryoichi Tsunekawa from FontShop.

Another skinny sans, I love the hints of personality shown through the ends of the ‘b’s and ‘q’s. Burin Sans by Monotype from FontShop.

Last but not least is this fun new font again designed by Ryoichi Tsunekawa for Flat-it Type Foundry. Not super crazy about it in black but love it in colour. From FontShop.
