I’ve been on the hunt for a new sketchbook and I have to admit I’m a bit overwhelmed by the selection available. Nowadays, sketchbook and journal covers are sometimes more inspired and creative than the doodles that lie inside. Like anything else that has a skin or a cover, it’s a reflection of our creative taste and the quest to find one that matches our design personality can be daunting.
So far, I’ve been really drawn to sketchbooks and journals that have recycled materials for the covers. It’s great to see old and unwanted items recycled with love to become something new and useful again. I think the nostalgic factor has something to do with it too.
I have a strange love for bingo so this one from Soma Venus is right up my alley. She has a few really neat hand sewn sketchbooks made from other recycled materials.
From La Familia Green, they have journals made from old postcards and VHS sleeves.
I came across this journal while I was at Paper-Ya on Granville Island here in Vancouver. A vintage record LP serves as the cover and you can even choose the music genre!
Here are a few that remind me of my childhoood:
From Moonlight Bindery, LEGO journal
From I Need That Studios, Old Walt Disney Book turned journal
And for board game fans, here are couple from MixtGoods. Christine, I know you like the Scrabble one!

LOL, you totally know me Cassie. Love the Scrabble book! The Bambi cover is hilarious too “Bambi gets lost”. It sounds like someone told Bambi to take a hike!
