Hayes Valley – San Francisco

by cassie on April 5, 2011

On the last day of my trip, Amber and I took a self-guided walking tour of sorts. Mostly we were just interested in seeing shops and wandering the city in the great weather.

Recommended by a local we headed to Hayes Valley. Did we ever LOVE this neighbourhood! So many great shops and restaurants, we easily could have spent the whole day there.

My two favourite shops: Lotus Bleu and Miette.

Lotus Bleu is a home decor and interior design shop filled with the most fabulous fabrics by Madeline Weinrib. I instantly wanted to redo every surface with these textiles.

I also have a bit of an obsession with tea towels and this shop did not help. I wanted every.single.one.

After dragging myself out of Lotus Bleu, we stumbled onto Miette – a super sweet (literally and figuratively) confectionery shop. Their shop sign caught my attention and the goodies inside kept me there.

Of course there are the typical candies wrapped up stylishly but there were also some very boutique chocolates with the best packaging.

A sweets shop wouldn’t be complete without some perfect cupcakes. In fact, Miette started at the Berkeley Farmers’ market in the fall of 2001 with their hand-crafted cakes and pastries.

I LOVE skinny candles! They’re not that easy to find (well, at least I don’t seem to stumble upon them frequently) so I was delighted to see them in a whole bunch of colours.

Everything looks so pretty and colourful in all the glass jars!

I highly recommend a visit to Hayes Valley the next time you’re in San Francisco and I’ll definitely be making my way back there next time.

Until then,

Ditto on Tien’s sentiments! Too bad they won’t let you sit on the armchair.
