The Cleveland Clinic by Frank Gehry

A couple weeks ago, Derrick and I flew down to Vegas for a friend’s wedding. We stayed for about 4 days and had just enough time to spend with friends, shop and of course, visit the latest Frank Gehry architectural masterpiece – the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health.

To tell you the truth, we simply heard there was a Frank Gehry building in Vegas and put it on our to-see list. Little did we know that it actually opened the Friday we go there. So why did we want to see this? I can’t remember how we grew to love his work, but I think it started with the Display + Design program at Langara. We also watched the biography “Sketches of Frank Gehry” and his sketches truly inspired us to believe that anything is possible. His sketches looked like scribbles, and his mock-ups were nothing extraordinary – just imagination put to reality with scissors, paper and Scotch tape. He didn’t let his imagination be limited by what can/can’t be done.

Anyhow, we drove to the Premium Outlets north of the strip and found the Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health across the street from this major shopping destination. With a mini van filled with 7, even our friends were impressed. This building is dedicated to research for degenerative brain diseases.

Probably most famous for designing the Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Gehry’s distinct style can be seen all over the world. Seattle’s EMP (Experience Music Project) museum, a line of servingware and jewelry at Tiffany’s, and more.

Cheers,
