Font Friday – May 21

Veer recently released THE latest masterpiece by Alejandro Paul – Brownstone. I absolutely fell in love with this typeface the moment I opened my email newsletter.

Controlled curls? Carefully thought out curves? Oh the details! The font comes with beautiful ligatures, alternates and decorative frames for that perfect wedding invite or logo. “Inspired by the historic brownstone buildings of Brooklyn, New York”, this font is described by Veer as a monoline sans serif with ornate details.

There’s something about the thin line and careful placement of each detail that makes this font balanced but not your typical modern typeface. It’s like it was designed for letterpress applications – as it reminds me of the many flourishes designers have used in their cards or wedding invitations. Yet, it does have that historic appeal – and by that I mean, it reminds me of the many ornate patterns used in the facades, mosaics and tiled floors observed during my trip to Italy.

Regardless, this font is sure to be a hit. Brownstone Complete (Open Type) is actually pretty reasonable – only $130 for 6 typefaces! Fabulous!
