Font Friday – April 30

by cassie on April 30, 2010

As I said last week, there as SO MANY choices out there for a nice wedding script font. I’m starting on a new wedding invite design project for my friend Kelly so searching for these great fonts at the same time has been good timing. I’ve known Kelly forever, since we were in the same class in Grade 7! That same year, I started watching The Young and the Restless. Don’t ask me why, I have no idea. It was on after school and seemed more appealing than Oprah. Kelly was a fan too and years later, when she moved overseas, we stayed in touch and along with my personal updates, I would bring her up to speed on the trials and tribulations of the citizens of Genoa City. Neither of us watch Y&R anymore and frankly, we know more than enough people who’s lives are just as random and dramatic. We are never short on material for those conversations!

But back to design and stationery. I’m really flattered and excited to be part of her wedding experience. I really love designing invites and lucky for me Kelly is open to having something fun and less traditional so I’m looking forward to getting the creative juices flowing.

Building on last week’s choices, here are five more to consider:

La Portenia by Alejandro Paul, Angel Koziupa and Diego Giaccone. It seems that Alejandro designs a lot of the fonts I like. Same for this one. A pretty script with nice flourishes, this would be a great choice for a wedding invite. Available from Fontshop and Veer for $69.

La Portenia de la Boca

If you’re looking for a font with less curl in the flourishes Inoxida is nice. There’s still the element of a casual, written script but it’s more structured and less “airy-fairy”. Again this font is designed by Alejandro Paul and Angel Koziupa. Seriously – when I picked these fonts out, I didn’t know that a lot would be from the same designer. I guess I’ve found a foundry that appeals to my design palette! Available from Fontshop for $59.

Inoxida

If you want lots of options for flourishes, swashes and ligatures, Giambattista is a great choice. A more formal and classic style script, this font comes in three variations allowing you to really customize your text. Restrained use of the flourishes sprinkled throughout will make for very elegant copy. Get all three from Fontshop for $49.50 or just one font for $29.50.

Giambattista

A new and top-selling font at Fontshop, Lily Wang has the imperfect look of ink calligraphy without the actual hassle of having to do ink calligraphy! A more formal script, for some reason I imagine the girls of Pride and Prejudice would have penmanship like this. By the way, I really love that movie and I’m not usually a fan of movies from that time period. Anyway, for $18.50, this font is a no-brainer purchase.

Final font for today is Allyson by P22. An elegant script that’s perfectly suited for wedding invitations, it flows lightly across the page with dramatic, tall sweeps and lovely capitals. Available from Fontshop for $19.95.

Happy weekend!
