Flat Pack Fabulous

I started my new job last week as a User Experience Designer. Huh? you might say. Well, the best way to describe what it is, is to tell you what user experience design isn’t. It’s a totally new role for me, a departure from what I’ve been doing for the past few years but I’m really excited about it. I’m actually returning to my educational roots a bit (I did a Computer Science major) which I never thought I’d do. I guess I was waiting for something in the field that would mix my love for design and usability with technology.

What this means though is that now I’m working 5 days a week in an office, something that I haven’t done in almost 2 years. I don’t love cubicles so I’m making every attempt to personalize my tiny footprint of space. Of course this is a perfect excuse to shop for desk accessories.

I was in Nood the other day and came across desk accessories that were both functional and eco-friendly! I love browsing in Nood – they have such a great mix of the modern and the whimsy.

From V-15 comes a line of desk accessories that arrive flat packed which you then assemble yourself. Made from wood veneer, the products range from CD holders to pencil cases and waste bins. My favourite is their tape dispenser. V-15 actually offers more than what I saw in Nood and they offer other lines that are also eco-friendly. If you browse their site you can see what each item is composed of.

The prices are good too! At Nood, the tape dispenser was $5, the scissors holder and desk organizer $9. Here’s what they look like:

Nood V15 Tape

Nood V15 Scissor

Nood V15 DeskOrg

I really like that I can build them myself. It’s a bit like those Kinder Surprise toys but immensely more useful. Next on the list to beautify my space – push pins and magnets. Maybe a plant too…
