GOOD Friday

For many of you, today is your “Friday” and the beginning of the first long weekend in 2010 for Canadians. I look forward to Easter because we have a long weekend almost every month for the rest of the year. So thought I’d celebrate the beginning of this long weekend with a post from GOOD.

As one of my favourite infographic sites, GOOD, has shared several pieces and thoughts on today’s events. The first piece shows results of a poll on favourable or unfavourable countries. You will need to click the image to get a larger and more readable view.

This one provides a very informative visual on which fish to eat. As healthy as fish is for the diet, many are endangered species. Find out how you can help save the fish population by only eating certain species.

The below piece was derived from data collected by the Congressional Research Service. Just another piece to get you nervous. But on a graphics note, I love how effective the flat, one-colour, 2D graphics come across in an informational piece like this.

And finally, a review of the most expensive pieces of art ever sold at an auction – with Alberto Giacometti’s Walking Man 1 topping the list. The day a living artist makes this list, will be one of the most memorable days for me (and a day I do a major blog post).

Hope you enjoyed catching up on some major events and great visual pieces. Have a great long weekend everyone,

Cheers,

> Christine

Cameron Moll
Last week, thanks to the Applied Arts blog, I got to read about the latest work from Cameron Moll. A Florida-based designer, his amazing typographic letterpress posters are unbelievable. From afar they look like typical ink renderings of architecture. Look closer and you'll see an entire canvas filled with typographic detail. // Read More
Winged Wheel – Wheeee!
The weather is dreary and depressing here in Vancouver. There's been a lot of rain and gray days and while I know complaining about rain in Vancouver is like complaining about traffic in NYC (in other words, pointless), I was in need of a pick me up. Winged Wheel to the rescue! // Read More
