Lululemon Lab

Welcome back everyone, hope you had a great weekend! Yesterday was so exciting, I think I had to check my blood pressure. The US Men’s Hockey team really gave Canada a run for their money, but Crosby pulls through scoring the winning goal once again. And to see the Closing Ceremonies and the cool moose hats, I want to carry the Olympics momentum with a post on some more behind-the-scenes festivities from around Vancouver.

On Saturday, Derrick and I spent the morning having breakfast with a friend at Medina (which I totally recommend) and soaked in more Olympic atmosphere from the streets downtown. Closer to the afternoon, we made our way to Broadway to the dentist and walked past the Lululemon Lab on Broadway and Cambie.

For those who don’t live in Vancouver, Lululemon opened a production/sewing room on the first floor for all passers-by to see. It’s not their full-fledge production room, but something to capture attention. Floor to ceiling windows and flood lights show seamstresses at work – something you can’t miss even when you drive by.

Well, they had a cool window display made of spools of thread. It turns out that Emily Carr students partnered with them to do different window displays each week of the Olympics.

This simple idea shows well from afar. This past weekend, they had a hockey player on display but I could not get a good picture of it. But thanks to the students for posting these on their blog.

It seems window displays are a dying art. Other than what you see at Holt Renfrew downtown, Vancouver retailers are a sea of boring mannequins. So it’s great to see these installations for a change – perhaps by other design schools… hint hint… Langara Display & Design program!

I'm sure we've all seen really great packaging for chocolate on the outside but what about designs on the inside, literally? The graphics on the bon bons from Mink really caught my eye not only because it's different but also really fun! // Read More
Bear Flag Wine
I've said it before, I'm a total sucker for buying bottles of wine with cool labels. I know I should know better but I can't help it. Wine bottle labels have come a long way and if it's well designed and graphically interesting, I'll take the chance. Also, I don't really remember new wines I try by their name but if I saw the label, I'd know it. Wine snobs, cringe away. // Read More
