Hina Aoyama

by cassie on November 26, 2009

When I was young, someone gave me beautiful Chinese paper cuts (the art, not the swear-inducing accident). It seems I was in love with all things paper even back then. These pieces of paper art, delicately placed between two sheets of tissue paper were of traditional motifs brought to life using hundreds of intricate cuts. Fast forward to today and this ancient art is still being practiced.

It was on Flickr that I discovered these amazing pieces by Aoyama Hina. A Japanese girl living in France, she is after my own heart with a collection of typographical paper cuts. Extraordinarily detailed scripts and flourishes, I am blown away. Her other themes include flowers and butterflies but these of type are my favourite. Check out her photostream, you won’t be disappointed.
