The Craft of Boxcar Press

by christine on October 27, 2009

As one of the largest letterpress shops in the country, Boxcar Press must be wowed by the designs that go through each day. And for all of us print and paper fiends, here are a couple of fantastic pieces they had the fortune of working with.

This particular set was designed by Ian Koenig – simply awesome. I often hear people squeal when there are more than 3 fonts used in one piece, but this is so much fun! I also recently purchased the Feel Script font (one of the typefaces used) and there are so many fun swooshes to play with in the Open Type palette.

As well, who doesn’t love cupcakes?

What else is great about the Boxcar website is that there is a great deal of info on how to design for letterpress and prepare files for print – a resource you may want to bookmark.

This next set that was found in the Boxcar Letterpress portfolio was designed by Sharon Bartholomew, for Corinna Raznikov Photography. A bold marketing piece with an incredible amount of detail. What a great piece to hand out to potential customers. No postcards thrown out here!
