One of a Kind – Me Hoi
We are back from dinners and feeling bloated as ever. But at least Cassie and I got to walk it off at the One of a Kind show this past weekend. Not wanting to miss a thing, we zig zagged our way in an orderly fashion through the booths and came upon Me Hoi and the awesome display that easily packed away in Hoi-An’s suitcase.
If you’ve ever had to help someone set up a tradeshow booth, it’s quite a feat. Booths with nice drywall is not only a pain to carry, but it’s a pain to find someone with a big enough truck. And then you have your fixtures. But the Me Hoi booth was creative.
It was full of magnetic buttons on the wall held up by screws (quite ingenious by the way), and lined with awesome magnet cards. What drew our attention was the button with the rice cooker – something I wish I could show you, but couldn’t find a picture of it on the web.
Me Hoi is the craft of Hoi-An, a Toronto native with many talents in print making, oil paint, mixed media and more. With a unique illustrative style, she is bound to win the hearts of both kids and smart-mouthed adults alike. They’re characters alright – love the bunny gorging on the carrot. Would love that on a t-shirt or re-usable shopping bag of sorts.
But here’s a taste of some of the illustrations we had fun giggling at while attending the show.
